A Guide to the Medical Biology of Sentient Species

Chapter 1: NanoTrasen-approved Species

  • Human: Most doctors know how to treat a human. Standard medicines apply. Make sure to administer blood according to type (O+ for O+, )- for O-, etc.) or the patient will receive toxins damage. Internal organs (heart, lung, liver, appendix, etc.) are considered standard.

  • Vuulek (Lizardfolk): Vuulek anatomy is almost identical to a Human, with the excpetion of their blood (Vuulek have a species-unique type L blood).
Phytosian: Phytosians heal in the light, and starve and die in the dark. Most of their organs resemble human anatmoy, with the exception of their lungs- Phytosians have an organ called the "mesophyll", which allows them to breathe both O2 and CO2.

  • Moth: Despite their wings, all other Moth anatomy is identical to a human. Though they can digest cloth, this does not seem to be tied to a specific organ.
  • Preternis: Despite their mechanical limbs, Preternis organs are still mostly organic. They have two unique organs: a cell-stomach (which allows them to consume electricity from APCs), and preternis lungs(these function similarly to advanced cybernetic lungs; they require less o2 than a human and can tolerate higher air temperature.)
  • Polysmorph: Three organs in a Polysmorph differ from a human: They possess an alien liver (which allows processing of gross, burnt food without being poisoned), adevolved plasma vessel for lungs (which allows breathing of both plasma and o2), and their tongue, which simply grants the speaker an audible "hiss" to their tone.
  • Ethereal: First and formost, an Ethereal possesses a unique crystal core in place of a heart. Not only does it not decay, but when the Ethereal perishes, they become a crystal segment and reform over time. This makes cloning or revival unnecessary as long as the heart is still in the body. For research purposes, though, their stomach is a biological battery (much like Preternis, Ethereals consume electricity), and their lungs are an aeration reticulum (Ethereals are able to breathe plasma, which is then converted into blood).
  • Vox: Vox, similar to Vuulek/Lizardfolk, have a unique species bloodtype- type V. Most Vox internal organs are identical to a human (however, Vox organs are cybernetically enhanced and never decay, allowing for revival surgeries) Vox possess no brain and instead house their personality in a "cortical stack". As a result, they are uncloneable- but in theory, a cortical stack could be surgically removed and re-implanted into a different body in place of a brain. Ethics commitees have made it difficult to test this hypothesis.
.
Chapter 2 will begin with the biology of a Plasmaperson (since their unique physiology makes dissection without burning the room down difficult), and continue onto non-NT races that a doctor may find in their operating room, from golems to slimepeople to the dreaded fly-mutant.

Study all chapters of this book, and you shall become one of the most competent surgeons in this sector of NT space.
