Teslium is a highly potent toxin, it causes electrical arcs and burns whoever has it in their system. There are ways to prevent this however, such as the genetic mutation Insulated or the nanite program Electric Conduction. It is obvious when someone has Teslium in their system, as they will have a gentle blue glow around them.
Once the shocks have been neutralised in some manner, it is a useful chemical. It provides EMP immunity to both the user, and any implants or nanites they have (This does not protect equipment in your possession).
For preternis, it provides extreme speed; oxygen, brute, and burn healing, as well as stamina regeneration. This is at the cost of having a higher conduction coefficient, and being more susceptible to burn damage.
In layman's terms, this means that you can put a preternis into critical condition with only one lit welder strike. It does mean however that a preternis can dodge projectiles faster than any other species, and has passive healing from only Teslium.
