How to write books.

A formatting reference.

So you want to write a book huh? Something that doesn't look like total crap? Perhaps you have a good idea but don't know how to not make it a huge wall of text?

Well I assume that's why you're here! Within these pages I will show you how to format your books to look beautiful, and by the end give you some tips while working on your own.

Chapter One: Formatting Codes

Here you will find a list of all the formatting codes and a brief description of what they do.

[br] Will start a new line, two of them will leave an empty line between two text.

[b
] Will bold text after it. Use to end the bold.

[i
] Will italics text after it. Use to end the italics.

[center
] Will move text after it to the center. Use to uncenter the text after it.

[*
] Will put a bullet point before any text.

[list
] Will try to put words in a list, use in combination with
. Use
to end the list.

[hr
] Will put a line between two text.

[u
] Will underline text after it. Use to end the underline.

[large
] Will make text after it larger. Use [/large] to end the large.

[small
] Will make text after it smaller. Use [/small] to end the small.

[sign
] Will sign your name on the spot.

[field
] Will provide a spot to write in later.

Chapter Two: Formatting Examples

Alright so you have some new codes to play with, but you still aren't sure how to use some of them? Here we will give a few examples that might give you some ideas when including them into your book.

The [br] code is probably the most handy of them all, allowing you to start new lines and separate whole paragraphs. Using two of them together will put empty space between two sections of text.

This right here.
Is one [br
] code.

While this here.

Is two [br
] codes back to back.

Another useful code is the [hr
] code, letting to draw lines between sections like so.

This is what.
An [hr
] code does.

Titles can be made better by the use of centering like this.

I am the center of attention!

Book Title Here.

A title can also be made better by the use of different font sizes, there are three sizes in all.

Small

Normal.

Large

Though not particularly useful for stories, the
code can be tricky to use, so I'll give some examples of it anyway.

. . . I'm sorry, I actually fucked that up just now, this is a good example of what can happen if you are not careful. Let me try this again:

Though not particularly useful for stories, the [list
] code can be tricky to use, so I'll give some examples of it anyway.

This is what it will try to do on It's own

  • Using
will put bullet points.

    • Combine
    • them
    • for
    • this.

Chapter Three: Tips for the Budding Writer

Writing books on the station can be a pain in the ass. All manner of untold horrors will conceive to stop you at all cost. You also cannot undo something once you've written it, so the smallest errors will cause you to start all over.

When writing I suggest finding a nice, quiet, undisturbed place to settle down where you and your pen can be alone. I also suggest working on your great masterpiece off station, so that you can make sure everything is in order and you won't lose it to the unfortunate explosion or error driven AI.

Formatting codes can be added onto your work before you try to move it onto actual paper, and will still work. Keep in mind however that you can only write soo much “at a time”, however the paper will otherwise have infinite space for holding your master novel.

Once your work is complete and written down, take it to the book binding machine in the library. After which you can and should use a pen on the book to do the following things:

    • Title it.
    • Name the author. (you)
    • Set It's genre, such as this book is a reference book.

When picking a genre, consider what your book is about. Does it reflect real events? Then it should be non fiction. Is it a wild tale of fantasy, magic, and adventure? Then it should be fiction. Is it a spiritual guide book of the great lord singuloth? Then it should be religion. Is it a book for learning and teaching of things? Then it should be reference. Is it a book clearly not good for children in any capacity? Then it should be adult.

Please note that NanoTrasen frowns upon erotic books being written and uploaded on their stations. You have been warned.

Once the book binding machine is done whirling and whizzing, and you have added the final touches to the new product, it is time to permanently etch your master work into the great archive of NanoTrasen! Simply take the book to the scanner machine behind the libraries desk, or ask the librarian for help. Use the machine to scan the book, and then use the computer to upload it.

Congratulations! You have added a new fine piece of writing to be enjoyed for generations by the minds of dedicated readers everywhere. And if you followed this guide it won't be a total piece of shit either!
