We were somewhere around the cargo bay when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like " I feel a bit light-headed; maybe you should pull me..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the corridor was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around us. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these god-damn animals?" Then it was quite again. My attorney had taken of his jumpsuit and was pouring space beer on his chest. "What the hell are you yelling about?" he muttered. " never mind," I said. No point in mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.
It was almost 38 minutes into our shift and we still had a few corridors to go. Very soon, I knew, we would both be completely twisted. The captain had called the shuttle and the ETA was already under way, and we had to get there soon...
