In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream. But Why

It is common knowledge that in space, no one can hear you scream. But why is this so? Well, sounds are just vibrations that travel through the air and other mediums, such as water or metal. In order for vibrations to occur, a medium has to be present. We hear sounds on the station because there is (usually) air, a medium, inside. Space can be defined as the vacuum that exists between celestial bodies. Since space is a vacuum, virtually no air exists for the vibrations from your vocal chords to travel through when you try to scream. Therefore, it is impossible for anyone to hear you scream, and to hear any other sounds, in space.
